Ghostbusters II
IT’S DIFFICULT TO TRUST FILM REVIEWS THESE DAYS
They’re usually put out there by shills who are bought and paid for… Or they’re plants direct from the studio… Or they’re simply published by lily-livered hacks too scared of being black-listed by the corporations that own the studios… But BRONSON GREEN gives it to you straight !
REGULAR 3-LINE NO-FRILLS, NO BS FILM REVIEWS… SIMPLE AS THAT, READERS !!!
Ghostbusters II - Hugely enjoyable escapades with characters we love, among some clever paranormal concepts and set ups, but it’s best enjoyed as an episodic adventure and not as a sequel to one of Hollywoods funniest and most original event movies of all time (because you’d be disappointed). Edelmans score is a poor cousin to Bernsteins witty and spooky compositions for part one, the effects and scares are a little too cuddly and soft core, the climax not quite epic and frightening enough, but several scenes still stand out (the court house), Murray is still effortlessly on-form, and Ramis and Ackroyd’s ideas are still infinitely more engaging than 99% of Hollywoods other output in this genre. Funny how Ray Parker Jr’s rocking title song perfectly summed up the fun, stylish, frenetic events of the original, and how Bobby Brown’s mid-tempo, likeable but not-catchy On Our Own exemplifies properties most often attributed to this much maligned follow up. 7.68/10
